Some wheelsets ask for attention: checking, truing, cleaning after every wet or sandy ride. The Anath 423 is built for the rider who doesn’t want that. It is a no-nonsense wheelset that is fast, reliable and asks very little of you, whether the plan is a gravel tour, a multi-day bikepacking route or a beach race.
That reliability starts at the hub. DT Swiss 350 Straight Pull hubs are known for their robust build and low maintenance, and the brass nipples are a safe choice: brass holds up well against corrosion, which is what you want when your wheels see rain, mud, sand or salt. It is also what makes this build the right pick for beach racers, a niche where 9th Wave has been the reference since we launched the 4-Shore in 2017. The Anath 423 builds on that experience with non-boost 12 x 100 / 12 x 142 axles that fit any gravel frame.
The rim is 33mm internal and 42mm deep, wider than most gravel rims, and rated for tires from 40 to 62mm: from a fast gravel tire to a 2.35-inch mountain bike tire. That width supports the sidewall and lets you run a lower pressure for grip and comfort on a loaded bike, and the 42mm depth adds stiffness and an aerodynamic advantage when you pick up speed. The ART asymmetric rim design evens out the spoke tension between the two sides of the rear wheel, so the wheel stays stiff and true. The set weighs 1460g.
It is hand built in the Netherlands, and once you register your wheels, the carbon rims are covered by our Lifetime Warranty and Crash Replacement Program. Fiets Magazine tested this rim in its February 2025 issue and praised the easy tubeless setup and the stability, which you can read about in our journal article.
