Somewhere past the halfway point of a long climb, the gradient kicks up again and every gram you’re carrying makes itself known. The Avalon SL3 Ninefold is built for that moment: at 1025g, it is the lightest wheelset in our range, for the rider chasing the last few grams to climb faster.
Ninefold is the top of the 9th Wave range: Alpina Carbolite carbon spokes laced to our own Onda-R hubs with ceramic bearings. Twenty spokes front and rear, the same balance we use across the Ninefold road line: light, and still stiff enough for a hard effort out of the saddle.
The rim is 35mm deep at the front and 40mm at the rear, at 23.5mm internal width, hooked and tubeless ready, rated for 27 to 33mm tires. For the best aero shape, low rolling resistance and high grip, we recommend 28 to 30mm tires. The ART asymmetric rim design evens out the spoke tension between the drive and non-drive side of the rear wheel, so a wheel built this light still holds its shape under load.
Every wheelset is hand built in the Netherlands by 9th Wave, a company with a track record for quality and reliability. Once you register your wheels, the carbon rims are covered for life.
