On the challenging terrains of the Mountain Bike Marathon World Championship in Scotland, Henrique Avancini emerged victorious to claim the title. The seasoned Brazilian, taking part in his own newly formed “Avancini Racing Team” for the first time, has won this prestigious gold medal for the second time in his career.
From the start of the race, Avancini demonstrated exceptional strength and finesse, maintaining a constant presence in the lead group and gradually widening the gap with his competitors.
9th Wave’s contribution to Avancini’s Success
On elite level racing, every detail matters. Avancini’s team employed the state-of-the-art wheels from the Dutch lightweight wheel builder, 9th Wave, during the championship.
Avancini competed on the company’s Ninefold Flex Ultimate wheels. These wheels are designed to provide substantial lateral stiffness while simultaneously ensuring a considerable level of comfort. This is achieved through a unique rim structure coupled with Dyneema (rope) spokes made by Berd. With an extremely wide rim — Avancini used a mixed wheelset with a 35mm (internal) front wheel and a 30mm (internal) rear wheel — for enhanced grip at a staggeringly low weight of just over 1100 grams.
Looking Towards Future Championships
Fresh from his marathon victory, Avancini is set to compete in the XCC and CXO races in the championship. During these races, he will have the option to use the even lighter Yarrow SL wheels from 9th Wave, weighing a mere 1008 grams.
